What Is Psoriasis Of The
Foot?
Psoriasis of the foot is simply skin psoriasis that
develops on the feet and ankle areas of the body. Foot psoriasis can be either the scale like type, or the type of
psoriasis which involves having small white blisters on red and inflamed areas of the skin.
Psoriasis is a chronic but non contagious skin condition, that's
thought to be a result of other problems or activities within the body's immune system. Some medical professionals
feel that psoriasis is triggered by great deals of stress, while others say it can also be triggered by events
which are stressful physically to the body such as having a severe illness or infection. Alternative health
specialists however, feel that psoriasis is the result of some deeper underlying problem within your body or its
major organs.
Many people see psoriasis of the foot and other areas of skin psoriasis as a skin disease, while
it is in fact, not actually a disease at all. Essentially, something happens within the body which makes it start
generating new skin cells much more rapidly than normal. When everything is working properly, the human body will
generate new skin cells deep beneath the surface of our skin. These new cells gradually rise to the surface over a
period of about thirty days. By the time the new skin cells reach the surface, existing skin cells have fully died
off and are ready to shed. This natural shedding process makes way for the new skin cells on the surface.
With psoriaris however, the new skin cells rise to the skin surface much more rapidly. Reaching
the top within just four or five days, these new cells have surfaced before the existing ones are ready to be shed.
So the skin cells pile up on the surface, creating the condition commonly known as psoriasis.
In most cases, psoriasis will look like dry, flaky skin. It's commonly found on the elbows,
knees and scalp, and usually has white or silvery gray scales. It can be itchy, and sometimes it can be red and
inflamed.
Psoriasis of the foot is simply the existance of skin psoriasis on the foot or ankle of your
body. Psoriasis of the foot can develop on the sole of a foot, top, between the toes, or all over.
Another type of psoriasis doesn't involve flaky scaly skin as much. Instead, this type of
psoriasis usually involves red, inflamed skin which has small white blisters all over it. This type of psoriasis
can also develop anywhere on the foot.
Psoriasis of the foot can be a big problem for some people. Because there is often itching and
sometimes swelling involved, this can make it difficult to walk normally. Some types of psoriasis will also cause
cracking and bleeding too, which can be quite painful.
Psoriasis of the foot is sometimes easily mistaken for fungal infections too, such as athletes
foot. If you develop scales or blisters and redness on your feet, and you're not sure if it's a fungus or
psoriasis, you can easily get it tested by visiting your family physician. They'll do a lab culture to check for
fungus growth.
