Scalp Psoriasis
Defined
Scalp
psoriasis remains a skin disorder that effects a significant amount of
the world’s population and is generally easily treated. The condition of psoriasis is not so much harmful as it is
unsightly and unseemly. As such, treatments are generally available over the counter and fairly easy to
apply.
Psoriasis of the
scalp, at its core, exists when the ability of the skin to replace
itself (living skin replacing dead skin) occurs at a rate that is far more accelerated than normal and this
leads to the promotion of raised, red blotches over the skin. The presence of scalp psoriasis usually results
in severe uncomfortable feelings in the person who has psoriasis as the person may have to deal with
increased itching. Needless to say, excessive itching and redness is something the average person would be
pleased to have eliminated so scalp psoriasis becomes both a visually unappealing condition as well as one
that provides a significant amount of physical discomfort.
Again, while scalp psoriasis is generally treated with over the counter medicine,
if the OTC treatment does not provoke the needed response to send the psoriasis into
remission, it may be wise to consult with a doctor and give a prescription medicine a try. Many times, a
cortisteroid anti-inflammatory drug can be used to reduce the redness and swelling to a manageable
level.
While most forms of scalp psoriasis will not require such treatment, the reality
is that different people’s bodies react to different treatments with different results. Therefore, it may even be
necessary to have to try several different prescription medicines before finding one that delivers the desired
results. If this is the case, the afflicted party should not become frustrated nor worry, but simply have a bit of
patience and keep faith in the medical profession to provide a proper cure.
